Dublin Fire Chief appointed by Governor

Dublin Fire Chief Sheldon Gilbert has been selected by the Governor to serve as a Co-Chair, along with Lou Paulson, President of the California Professional Firefighters, on the Blue Ribbon Task Force.  The Blue Ribbon Task Force is to help ensure that recommendations made by the Blue Ribbon Fire Commission, established after California’s 2003 wildfires, continue to be implemented.  California has made significant progress in meeting the Commission’s recommendations. More than 100 new engines have been purchased to replace aging CAL FIRE engines; more than 42 new engines have been purchased to replace aging California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA) engines; and, 19 additional new engines have been purchased by Cal EMA.

East Bay Prepares for Fire Season

The Contra Costa Fire District and Alameda County Fire Department are doing their part to prepare for the upcoming fire season. Both, simulated fires in their respective areas as part of a training dealing with realistic conditions. On Wednesday and Thursday, Camp Parks held the ultimate of wildland fire-training sessions. The Army base was the site of a massive exercise involving 450 firefighters from agencies across all nine Bay Area counties and some from out of state, including the Contra Costa Fire District and Alameda County Fire Department, along with the San Jose, Fremont, Montecito, San Francisco, Oakland and Reno fire departments.
