It was a great honor to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on behalf of the Dublin City Council and the city of Dublin with the United States Army Reserve for an Employer Partnership Initiative. The signing ceremony took place at Camp Parks on Tuesday, June 23rd, and I was joined by the mayors of Pleasanton and San Ramon as well as representatives from 7 other public agencies in Northern California.

This Employer Partnership Initiative is a nationwide program to find employment opportunities for Army Reservists after they return from deployment. They will be immediately notified of any job openings within the city of Dublin, and if they are qualified will have the opportunity to apply and will be given very strong consideration. Considering the long-standing relationship between the city and the Camp Parks Army Reserve Forces Training Area, this was just another opportunity to solidify our partnership and help Army Reserve Veterans within our city.

One of Dublin’s most active service organizations in recent years has been the Dublin Historical Preservation Association (DHPA). They were a driving force behind the development of the Heritage Park, and have made dozens of donations in recent years to the city. For their efforts, they were recognized as Dublin’s Organization of the Year in 2007.

I had the opportunity to swear in the new Board of Directors at DHPA’s annual installation dinner. Steve Lockhart graciously agreed to stay on as president, and most of the other board members also offered to serve another year to continue the organization’s good work. One new member joining the board is Planning Commissioner Morgan King. In addition to working on the Heritage Park and expanded program offerings at the current museum, other goals where DHPA is looking to partner with the city for the upcoming fiscal year are the development of an oral history program and the preservation of historical artifacts at Camp Parks.

After the installation ceremony, the speaker for the evening was Mr. Hughlet, who worked for nearly 30 years for the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD). He was the primary person responsible for the acquisition of open space in the East Bay from the 1950’s through the 1980’s, and his efforts led to the expansion of open space park acreage in the region from 13,000 to 64,000 acres. The agency currently maintains over 100,000 acres of open space park acreage in the East Bay, and Mr. Hughlet proudly boasted how this has literally made EBRPD the largest urban park district in the entire world.

Starting July 1st, the Housing Division of the Community Development Department will begin issuing First Time Homebuyer Pre-Approval Letters. In early April, participants at the First-Time Homebuyer Loan Program Open Forums requested that the City of Dublin issue Pre-Approval Letters to qualified buyers to assist them in being more competitive in today’s real estate market. The issuance of Pre-Approval Letters will also help real estate professionals in securing properties and appropriate financing to meet the needs of First Time Homebuyers.
