Redevelopment of Arroyo Vista

At a special meeting Tuesday night the Dublin City Council unanimously approved the demolition of the existing site and the redevelopment of a new 378 unit residential development.  The new project will include market rate attached and detached unites with affordable senior apartments, affordable family apartments, an enhanced community building, and a new childcare facility. This is a unique public/private partnership.  On the public side you have the City of Dublin, the Alameda County Housing Authority, the Dublin Housing Authority and HUD.  From the private sector, you have a non-profit housing developer (Eden Housing), who has already had success in our community with Wicklow Square, Dublin’s first senior housing development.  The for-profit developer is Citation Homes.Plans for the redevelopment of Arroyo Vista began in 2003 when residents complained of ongoing maintenance problems, including problems with roofs, windows, water, sewage, and landscaping.  After doing a detailed cost analysis, it was determined that it would make more financial sense and be a greater enhancement to the community to redevelop the entire site instead of trying to keep up with ongoing maintenance needs.  This was especially true in light of the diminishing support from HUD and Alameda County. One other major enhancement of the current project is that it is a mixed income project.  Unlike the current project which is a 100% low income rental site, the current project mixes for sale and rental housing, market rate and low income, along with senior and family housing.  This is consistent with what housing advocates nationwide support as the best way to build a sustainable community and provide affordable housing in a sensible way.The proposed development also includes a mixture of modern architectural styles that will enhance the Dougherty Road corridor.  Demolition and reconstruction depends primarily on financing, but will likely begin in late 2010 early 2011.

Street Closures in Dublin due to DHS Homecoming Parade

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 28, 2009

Dublin – Due to the Dublin High School Homecoming Parade, there will be some street closures and re-routing of traffic on the afternoon of Friday, October 2nd. Village Parkway will be closed in both directions from Amador Valley Boulevard to Davona Drive beginning at 2:30 p.m.
The Homecoming Parade starts at 3:45 p.m. at the Parkway Baptist Church (7485 Village Parkway) and will continue down Village Parkway to the Dublin High parking lot next to the Dublin Swim Center. Class floats, royalty, car show winners, marching bands, cheerleaders, the football team, and representatives from every public school in Dublin will be participating.

Although it is expected that the parade will be over by 4:15 and roads may be re-opened as early as 4:30 p.m., motorists are being asked to plan as if the roads will be closed until at least 4:45 p.m. Members of Fitness 2000 and patrons of businesses in the Village Square Shopping Center will still have full access off of Amador Valley Boulevard during the duration of the street closures.

People planning on attending the parade are being encouraged to access the campus by heading west on Brighton Drive from Amador Valley Boulevard. Attendees are also being encouraged to arrive early. Alternative options for accessing the parade are Tamarack Drive east of Village Parkway (near Frederiksen Elementary) or west of Village Parkway on Brighton Drive (near Kolb Park and the DUSD District Office). Spectators can also park in the Village Square Shopping Center.

Following the parade, Dublin High School will be hosting its annual Homecoming Carnival, which is sponsored by the DHS Student Leadership class and nearly 30 campus clubs and organizations. There will be over 15 inflatables, 40 carnival games and attractions, live entertainment, and nearly a dozen food and beverage booths. The Homecoming Football game against Alhambra will be kicking off at 7:00 p.m.
