Mayor’s Report: Week of October 21st

Watch this weeks Mayor’s Report:

Fallon Sports Park a gem in the making

HEY, DUBLIN. You’re going to have one beautiful sports park by next summer.

I had a private tour of the new Fallon Sports Park this week with Rosemary Alex, the city’s project manager, Paul McCreary of the parks and community services department, and construction manager Reyad Katwan.

It’s amazing how quickly a barren, sloped dirt field is being transformed into sports fields, tennis and basketball courts, winding walkways, plazas and parking, and concession and drop-off areas. A lot of thought, planning and public input has gone into Fallon, which will be a showcase for the whole Tri-Valley.

“I’m really excited, not just for Dublin but for the rest of the valley who will come and visit us,” said Alex, adding that when Fallon opens there will be no other sports park like it in the East Bay.

The park is being built in several phases.

Mayor’s Summitt

The Danville Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual “Tri-Valley Mayors Summit” at the Crow Canyon Country Club on Tuesday, October 6th. I participated along with Danville Mayor Newell Arnerich, San Ramon Mayor Abram Wilson, Pleasanton Mayor Jennifer Hosterman, and Livermore Mayor Marshall Kamena.

As you can imagine, the dominant topic of conversation was the economy. I used the opportunity to tell attendees about the City’s economic incentive program to attract business, as well as the ways that we balanced our budget without cuts to programs or services. I also talked about how Dublin residents are very supportive of our efforts towards economic growth, and that despite the growth our City’s greatest strength always remains the sense of togetherness and community from the residents. A final question was posed to me by a high school student about the arts. I touted Dublin’s leadership on visual and cultural arts (i.e. public art, heritage center, etc.), while at the same time using this as an example of regional cooperation where all cities promote each others performing arts programs.
