OLDER DRIVER SAFETY:

Become More Informed and Active
at the Dublin Library
Thursday, January 21, at 1:30 p.m. 

Take charge of your driving safety!  Join us for an educational program where you will:

• Learn what you can do to maintain your driving skills
• Know when and how to change your driving behaviors to stay safe
• Understand what’s involved with license renewal and DMV re-examinations
• Obtain information about alternative community transportation resources and prepare a back-up plan for when you are no longer able to drive

 Speakers: COLLEEN CAMPBELL, Senior Injury Prevention Coordinator,  Alameda County Public Health Dept., VERONICA CONLEY, Community Outreach Ombudsman, Department of Motor Vehicles, as well as representatives from community transportation programs.

This FREE program is for older adults, their family members and service providers.  The program is from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.  No reservations are required and refreshments will be provided.

Co-sponsored:  by the Alameda County Library Older Adult Services, the Alameda County Public Health Department, Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority, Department of Motor Vehicles and the Tri-City Elder Coalition.

The weekend of December 12-13 turned out to be one of my busiest thus far in my tenure as Mayor, as I found myself bouncing back and forth between various holiday events in the City of Dublin.

My weekend kicked off on Saturday morning with the City’s official Breakfast with Santa event at the Shannon Center. The Dublin High Band Boosters used the Dublin Lions Club grill to cook up a wonderful pancake breakfast, while the jazz band provided entertainment and the marching band worked as servers. Hundreds of children had their pictures taken with Santa, and all who attended had a great time. The following morning I helped serve at the Knights of Columbus Breakfast with Santa at St. Raymond’s Moran Hall.

Santa could also be found at two other special events on Sunday. He was taking pictures with children sitting on top of a vintage 1915 Fire Truck at the Dublin Fire Station #18’s Open House event. Later that afternoon, he was also taking pictures at the corner of Amarillo and Silvergate as part of a special fund raiser to support the Dublin Youth Falcons Football program. Like a true politician, taking pictures with Santa at the two breakfasts wasn’t enough for me, and I found myself taking additional photos with Santa at both the Fire Station and the football fundraiser.

Although Santa was very active that weekend, not all of the City’s holiday activities included taking photos with Santa. There were two other special events that took place on Sunday afternoon. The first one was a sold out Holiday Tea Luncheon at the Dublin Heritage Center’s Old Murray Schoolhouse, while later that evening the Bay Bells had a special holiday performance at the Shannon Center as part of the City’s Winter Concert Series. It was great to see that the Holiday Tea was a complete sellout, and the attendance at the concert exceeded the City’s expectations as well because we had to set up additional chairs for all of the guests. I definitely enjoyed serving as a waiter at the Holiday Tea event, and I also found the Bay Bells’ Holiday Concert to be very entertaining.

For residents that just can’t get enough of the festive holiday season, the City’s Holiday on Ice will remain open at Dublin Toyota through Sunday, January 10th. If you haven’t had the opportunity to make it by for some outdoor ice skating, this is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a new tradition in our City.
