The Go Green Initiative is an environmental action plan that schools follow to improve environmental practices on campus, centered on five key principles or areas of effort: generate compost, recycle, education, evaluate the environmental impact of activities and nationalize responsible paper consumption. Amador Valley Industries (AVI), as part of its agreement with the City of Dublin, provides funding to schools in the Dublin Unified School District that participate in the Go Green program. While a few schools in the district participated in Go Green in the past, over the last few years, participation has declined with only Murray Elementary continuing its participation.
Recently, City of Dublin Staff has begun working with Go Green and with schools in the District to jump start participation. To revive the program, City Staff now serves as coordinator for Go Green, which means that City Staff will be monitoring data submitted by each to verify participation. As Go Green Coordinator, City Staff will also assist schools with Go Green setup and implementation. Currently, seven schools have committed to participate in the Go Green Program. Murray Elementary, Wells Middle School, Green Elementary, Dougherty Elementary and Dublin High School are submitting data through Go Green, and are receiving funding. Dublin Elementary and Frederiksen Elementary indicate that they also plan to do so in the near future.
