April 20th City Council Update

The latest document shows an update from the April 20th Council Meeting.

Grant Application for Shannon Center Parking Lot

The Parks and Community Staff is currently working on a grant proposal for the Urban Greening for Sustainable Communities Program through the state of California.  The project Staff is seeking funding for the rehabilitation of the parking lot the serves Shannon Community Center.  The project entails the removal of asphalt paving in the parking lot spaces and replacing with previous interlocking pavers, additional tree planting for shading and a vegetated bio-swale.  The project provides the following benefits:

  1. Reduction in peak storm water runoff
  2. Reduction of water pollution
  3. Groundwater recharge
  4. Improvement of air quality
  5. Reduction in heat-island affect and correlated energy use

There is no funding match required for this program and City of Dublin staff expects the funding request to be in the $450,000 to $550,000 (budget is still in process).  The application is due on April 30th and City of Dublin staff will be seeking a resolution of support from the Council at a meeting in May.  In the meantime, City of Dublin staff will be seeking a letter of support from members on the Green Initiatives Task Force and will be soliciting support from the local State Assemblymember.
