FC Gold Pride Signs Bay Area Local Brittany Cameron
HAYWARD, CA (February 16, 2010) – FC Gold Pride, Bay Area Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) team has signed Dublin, CA native Brittany Cameron to the team’s 2010 roster. Cameron joins the Pride after spending the inaugural WPS season with the 2009 WPS Regular Season Champion Los Angeles Sol as one of the team’s developmental players.
“Brittany has the potential to be one of the best goalkeepers in WPS,” said FC Gold Pride Head Coach Albertin Montoya. “We are pleased to be able to bring such a talented Bay Area product back to her hometown and look forward to working with her during the upcoming season.” Cameron was a four-year starter (2005-2008) and a two-time All-WCC selection (2007, 2008) for University of San Diego. Cameron earned WCC Defensive Player of the Year honors for her performance during her senior season when she maintained a 12-5 record that included 66 saves and nine shutouts in 20 appearances (19 starts). During her career, Cameron managed a 34-20 record in 70 appearances for the Toreros.
The Dublin High School graduate had a distinguished senior season in 2004, as team captain she earned First Team All-Diablo Foothill Athletic League, Contra Costa Times First Team and league Defensive MVP honors. She played club soccer locally with the Pleasanton Rage in 2004-05 and with the Dublin High Energy from 2000-03. Cameron will join US National Team Goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart and Erin Guthrie (Rutgers) as the goalkeepers for the Pride in the team’s preseason training camp which opens on March 7.
