Holiday Crime Suppression Unit

Beginning November 26, 2010, and continuing through the end of the year, Dublin Police Services (DPS) will start its annual Holiday Crime Suppression Unit.  During this time, patrols will be increased to include additional patrol units such as marked and unmarked vehicles, as well as officers on bicycles and on foot patrol.  The focus of the Holiday Crime Suppression Unit will be to increase police presence in and around the commercial shopping areas to curtail possible criminal activity such as theft, and theft-related crime that is inherent during the holiday season.  In past years, the Holiday Crime Suppression Unit has been very successful in keeping theft related crimes to a minimum, which has enhanced the shopping experience for patrons and business owners.

Dublin Police Services will not be opening a substation this year at Hacienda Crossings, as the center is completely full with retail tenants.  However, DPS will continue its community relations work through different avenues, including the Citywide newsletter, which will include a page on Holiday Safety Tips (summarized below) and on the City’s new website.

  • Be aware of surroundings at all times.
  • Secure all valuables in vehicles trunk out of site from passers by.
  • Do not carry large amounts of cash, and use credit cards or checks when possible.
  • Park in well lit areas at night, and make sure vehicles are secure with windows rolled up and doors locked.
  • Women should carry purses securely under their arms with straps over shoulder.
  • Men should carry wallets in front pants pocket or inside coat pocket.
  • Beware of strangers.
  • When walking to your car from business be alert and have keys ready.

Dublin Police Services looks forward to a happy and safe holiday season in the City.”
