International Walk to School Week
Three DUSD Elementary Schools to Join the City During International Walk to School Week; Dublin, Frederiksen, and Murray Elementary Schools will join an estimated 3,500 schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Week during the week of October 3 - 7, 2011.
International Walk to School Week is an annual event held around the world that encourages students and parents to walk and bicycle to school. An increase in the number of students walking and rolling results in less traffic congestion surrounding the schools during pick-up and drop-off times, which in turn improves safety and the environment. This year’s slogan is “Hike It. Bike It. I Like It!” For more information on the event, visit www.walktoschool.org.
Dublin elementary schools have participated in International Walk to School Week in previous years by contacting the City of Dublin and encouraging students to walk or bicycle to school on a designated morning during the first week of October. This year, the Dublin Police Services and Public Works Departments are working together to offer giveaways and refreshments to each participating Dublin elementary school, which will be distributed to students who walk or bike to school on the school’s chosen “International Walk to School Day.” A press release describing the event will be distributed to local media outlets and the DUSD
Superintendent.
