Wildfire Community Notification
On Wednesday (June 23) and Thursday (June 24) Dublin fire personnel, apparatus and equipment along with resources from throughout the AlamedaCounty Fire Department will be participating in a large-scale training exercise (i.e., Wildfire 2010). This exercise will be held on the Army Reserve base at Camp Parks in Dublin and does not present a threat to homes or businesses in the area.
Preparation for the training, including some smaller controlled burns, will begin as early as Tuesday, June 22, 2010. The most activity associated with the drill will occur on June 23rd and 24thbetween the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. During these hours firefighters will be involved in advanced training that includes extinguishing vegetation/grass fires in a controlled environment, emergency shelter deployment, progressive hose lay evolutions, and more. The community can expect to see a large number of fire apparatus (without lights and sirens) going to and from the Camp Parks area, as well as large plumes of smoke at various points throughout the training period - none of which should be cause for alarm.
Over the past 17 years, this exercise has proven to be a valuable tool to train frontline emergency personnel in wildland firefighting techniques while providing supervisors and managers with the opportunity to exercise their skills at managing large-scale emergency incidents involving multiple jurisdictions and disciplines; it is expected that over 300 emergency personnel and volunteer firefighters (each day) will participate in the exercise.
If you have any questions please contact the Alameda County Fire Department Public Information Officer, Aisha Knowles at (510) 693-3439 or the Dublin Fire Prevention Office at (925) 833-6606.
