Kirk Waller Brings Black History Alive!
Experience history coming alive through the power of storytelling, as the Dublin Library celebrates Black History Month with award winning Peformer, Kirk Waller on Saturday, February 4 starting at 3:00 p.m.
With a lifelong love of story, literature, music, movement, and the visual arts, Kirk Waller has been immersed in these art forms for over 20 years. He summons all of his talents and masterfully fuses them together - spoken word, rhythm, music and movement to create an unforgettable theatrical experience.
Kirk brings Black History to life by telling stories from Henry Box Brown to John Henry and his mighty hammer.
Kirk has told at festivals, schools, libraries, churches and special events throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and the country. Ann Mahon, Librarian and Program Manager, at South San Francisco Public Library writes “ Mr. Waller’s style is simply captivating…. [His] singing voice is absolutely beautiful and adds a very unique element to his stories. His tales, from the legend of John Henry to the life of Rosa Parks, are very poignantly told….Mr. Waller brings to life some very important parts of our history, and audiences young and old come away richer for the experience.”
Kirk is a member of the National Storytelling Network, National Speakers Association, Storytelling Association of California and Delta Wordweavers. He is also the Director of Storytelling Programs at Stagebridge Senior Theater Company in Oakland, Ca.
He has garnered national recognition for his abilities, including being awarded the J.J. Reneaux Emerging Artist Grant by the National Storytelling Network, receiving a Parent’s Choice Foundation GOLD award for his latest CD, “But Why? Stories, Music and Songs among much other recognition.
Last fall he told at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
This program is suitable for families with children ages 6 and up.
