Dublin Kicks Off the Holidays
Black Friday may have kicked off the Holiday Season for our City’s retailers, but four civic events last week marked the official start in the City of Dublin.
On Thursday, December 3rd, the City of Dublin hosted its 26th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in the Civic Center Courtyard. Hundreds of people were in attendance as “Glen the Guide” lead the official countdown to the lighting of the City’s Christmas Tree on Dublin Boulevard. The adult choir from John Knox Presbyterian Church and the Student Choir from the Dublin Unified School District lead residents in singing a wide variety of both familiar and original Christmas Carols. However, the highlight of the event was when Santa Claus appeared and gave candy to all of the children in attendance, while everyone in attendance enjoyed refreshments that were hosted by our Youth Advisory Committee. Earlier that evening, Hope Hospice also hosted a “Lights of the Valley” Tree Lighting event with a ceremony in front of the DSRSD building on Dublin Boulevard in honor of beloved family members and friends who passed away in 2009.
Two other Holiday events last week included the Dublin Chamber of Commerce’s annual mixer at its office on Donlon Way, along with the City’s Holiday Party at the Shannon Center. The Chamber mixer is a great way of bringing the business community together before the holidays, while the City’s party officially gives special recognition to all employees celebrating 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 year anniversaries working for Dublin.
Other major holiday events slated to take place are during the weekend of December 12-13. Dublin will be hosting its annual “Breakfast with Santa” on Saturday, December 12th at the Shannon Community Center. On Sunday, December 13th there is a Holiday Tea and Luncheon at the Heritage Center, followed by an Open House with Santa Claus at Fire Station 18 and a Holiday Bell Choir Concert at the Shannon Center. Check the City’s website at www.ci.dublin.ca.us for information on any of these events.
