Meeting with the Brokers
When it comes to generating economic activity for the City of Dublin, the role of commercial brokers is critical. Brokers that represent property owners, landlords, tenants, and prospective tenants are the key individuals that work with each other and the City to make deals retain and attract business to our City.
As a component of our overall economic development strategy, the City maintains regular “Brokers Roundtable” meetings. The purpose of the meetings is for City officials to hear directly from those on the ground about the local economic climate, while also allowing the brokers doing business in Dublin the opportunity to network with one another. Although 90-95% of business decisions on where businesses locate are based on market conditions, as a City we use the opportunity to hear from the brokers on specific policies and procedures that the City can implement to help spearhead growth and be as competitive as possible both now and when the market improves. Most of our economic incentives that have been adopted in the past year have come as a result of discussions with the brokers on what can help attract and retain tenants.
Our latest meeting was held on Tuesday, February 23rd, where brokers representing office, retail, and industrial users came to City Hall to have lunch and meet with the Economic Development committee, which consists of myself, Councilmember Don Biddle, City Manager Joni Pattillo, Assistant City Manager Chris Foss, Economic Development Director Linda Mauer, and Community Development Director Jeri Ram. They gave high compliments to the work of City Staff in getting projects completed and discussed zoning issues on current projects and planning strategies on future developments to make them economically viable.
