Welcoming Vietnam Veterans

As anyone with a basic knowledge of American history knows, the era surrounding the Vietnam War was one of the most divisive periods our nation has ever experienced. Unfortunately for the U.S. military veterans who served during that time-period, those who returned safely were never given the proper tribute and recognition they deserved.

In response, various veterans and military support groups from the Tri-Valley organized a special “Welcome Home” event at the Alameda County Fairgrounds on March 20th. There were thousands of people in attendance who came out to support several hundred Vietnam War veterans. A special flag-draped procession kicked off the event, followed by several patriotic songs and moving tributes. In addition, a moment of silence was held in memory of those who never returned, and a solemn tribute filled with symbolism was held in honor of all POW-MIA’s.

The Vietnam Veterans in attendance were extremely grateful for the outpouring of support. As a final message, they urged people that regardless of their thoughts on any particular war, to always honor the sacrifices of those in the armed forces and support the men and women who serve.
