Mulberry’s Del Rey Bag

The pattern is not new at all. The American actress, Grace Kelly, nowadays Princess Grace of Monaco labeled a famous bag by Hermes.  Jane Birkin gave the same fashion house’s CEO some suggestions as how to design a more practical bag.  Gucci had one of its timeless icons named after Jackie Kennedy. Sofia Coppola designed a capsule collection of Louis Vuitton items. Now it is Lana Del Rey’s time to have her name sealed on a bag.

Indeed, one of the key items of Mulberry’s fall/winter 2012 collection at London Fashion Week was the Del Rey bag inspired by the singer who could actually be seen on the first row. Only after the show was over, did the press find out the name of this bag, which tends to become an iconic fashion item. Emma Hill, the creative mind of the house explained that she fell for the singer’s Old Hollywood funny charm, for the insolence  that characterize her clips and for the melancholic tone of her voice.

The Del Rey bag will be put on sale only in May and prices will start from 1.250 dollars. However, only four versions will be available in stores as the white ostrich one was created exclusively for the star. As it was created to become a classic, the bag has a simple elegant look.  High quality leathers such as deer, crocodile and lambskin have been used to create this medium-sized bag suitable for day wear as well as for festive occasions. Its two hand straps have been especially designed to be hung on the arm and displayed with pride. Three color versions are available: brown made out of deer and bearing a grainy print aspect, black made out of soft mat or spongy leather and petrol blue made of tanned lambskin. The only decorations used are a simple gold buckle closure and a detachable leather bell.
